Obamacare opens door for Medicare to pay for sex-change operations

Update: Health and Human Services pulled information from its website late Friday after various news media outlets reported on the proposed “National Coverage Determination” referenced below.

As reported by The Hill, a HHS spokesman said Friday evening the proposal has been withdrawn while it weighs a challenge to the ruling that sex-change procedures should not be covered by Medicare and Medicaid.

Medicare dubbed sex-change operations “experimental” in 1981, but with Obamacare redefining health care in America, the door has been opened to covering transexual operations.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the federal agency that administers Medicare and Medicaid, said it is starting a new analysis that could lift the ban for sex-change operations, adding that it hopes to make a decision two days after Christmas — just days before Obamacare kicks in Jan. 1, 2014, the Washington Examiner reported.

Interestingly, it appears that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has since scrubbed from its website the notice the Examiner links to as the source for its report. The article said:

A 30-day public comment period just opened on the proposed “National Coverage Determination.”

“Surgical Treatment for Gender Identity Disorder, formerly referred to as transsexual surgery in 140.3, is currently noncovered under the Medicare Part A and Part B programs. The existing policy, which became effective in 1981, states that transsexual surgery is considered experimental,” said the notice just posted on the CMS.gov site.

The follow link was included, but now returns an “error message,” as do several other links to related content on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services website that the Examiner included in the report:

No results are returned when attempting to do a manual search for the notice.

Sympathetic psychologists and physicians are diagnosing the condition as a medical disorder when people are unhappy with the sex they were “assigned” at birth, creating coverage eligibility questions.

The use of the word “assign” is now commonplace, referring to a baby’s gender identified at birth, creating the possibility that this naming can prove to be false or that the gender is not a result of the natural order, but can be “chosen.”

Such a scenario conveniently removes God from the process.
