Hate at FAU and religious leaders’ inaction

The “Jesus stomping” lesson by a Florida Atlantic University professor and the public outrage that resulted has bloomed into a national news  event, with Florida Gov. Rick Scott calling for an investigation. I’ve got to state with pride that Bizpac Review, the conservative news and opinion website I write for, was among the first to report this incident. But there’s some still missing context here, especially when considering other events that have unfolded on FAU’s Boca Raton campus.

fau eviction noticeLast year, for example, the school’s Students for Justice in Palestine chapter posted phony eviction notices on students’ dorm doors condemning Israel for supposedly evicting Palestinians from their homes. The student group reared its hateful head again this year, littering the campus with “body bags” smeared with blood and symbolizing dead Palestinian babies . Then, for good measure, a few Holocaust deniers spoke on the campus to inflame the student population. And most recently, you have that now-infamous episode involving FAU Professor Deandre Poole, who as part of some textbook lesson had his students stomp on pieces of paper with “Jesus” written on them. Until the uproar over the Jesus stomping, FAU administrators held their heads high and murmured, “Freedom of speech on campus.” They could not move themselves to condemn any of the messages, even though it was the right thing to do.

So what’s happening at FAU? And who are the players involved in this attack on Jews and Christians on campus? As BizPac Review was first to point out, Poole also serves as vice chairman of the Palm Beach County Democratic Party. The same party’s former chairman, Mark Alan Siegel, was forced to resign after claiming that Christians want to see Jews “slaughtered.” Not Muslims, who plan and speak of such acts on a daily basis, mind you, but Christians. Is there a drip-down message from the president of the United States, percolating through the party in power, infecting our universities and shredding this nation’s Judeo/Christian value system to weaken America, as has been done throughout Europe? Professors are overwhelmingly liberal Democrats who spout the mantra of their party without hesitation.

The spotlight on FAU will not stop the Islamic movement on campus. It is highly motivated. It will require the leaders of the Jewish and Christian communities to call out the inactions of the university when confronted by such events. Rather than tell us that they are working behind the scenes to stem this hatred, our religious leaders must finally wake up to the dangers of Islam, no matter what their political affiliations and loyalties. It’s time for them to stand tall and fight for our survival. Let’s hear from them.
