Democratic Sens. Dick Durbin of Illinois, Hillary Clinton of New York and Harry Reid of Nevada all proclaimed their unwavering support for traditional marriage — the union of one man and one woman. How soon they forget.

“Virtually every one of our colleagues on both sides of the isle for that matter supports traditional marriage between a man and a woman,” said Durbin. “I respect this institution. I’ve committed to it with my wife, and I think that we understand that.”

“I believe that marriage is not just a bond but a sacred bond between a man and a woman,” Clinton said. “It exists between a man and a woman back into the midst of history as one of the founding, foundational institutions of history, humanity and civilization.”

Then Minority Leader Reid agreed. “I believe marriage should be between a man and a woman.”

They now say that since then they have “evolved.” I say their convictions are “tidal.” They come in, they go out, and definitions of words such as “marriage” are not subject to public opinion.
