Rand Paul on drug incarceration: Last two presidents could have been jailed

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., told Fox News’ Chris Wallace Sunday that Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush could have been jailed for drug use, given their prior admissions.

Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” Paul explained his libertarian views as they relate to drug laws, saying he doesn’t condone drug use and doesn’t want “to legalize them.” But “we shouldn’t incarcerate [drug users] for an extended period of time” given the non-violent nature of the crime, he said.

“I don’t want to put people in jail for this. Look, the last two presidents could conceivably have been put in jail for their drug use,” Paul said, according to Fox. “It could have ruined their lives.”

“Actually, I think it would have been the last three presidents,” Wallace corrected.
