Illegals featured in video: Our country has spoken, we deserve healthcare

A new video featuring illegal immigrants expressing their wishes for health care has made its way around Facebook.

“I’m undocumented, but I dream that one day we will all be treated as one people, because we are one people,” proclaimed one young person after another. “Now, our country has spoken saying that everyone should have affordable healthcare.”

As you might imagine, not everyone was supportive of the video’s message. The hot-button issue prompted a range of reactions.

One  of the more respectful comments reflected an opinion repeated by several others on the Health Happens Here group’s YouTube site:

Darrell Cheney

Legal, law abiding Americans who have lived here for a year or for a lifetime should be righteously indignant about this kind of dishonest crap. I hope this comment box lights up with people who are fed up with this and pissed off about being told what we should give to people who don’t even respect our laws and aren’t citizens of this country. If we give it to them do we start handing out healthcare to the world? It’s ridiculous, make your voice heard and make it loud.Undocumented? You’re not undocumented because you have documents from your home country. You are a criminal immigrant. Don’t break our immigration laws and show blatant disrespect for the rule of law in this country and then expect to get free stuff.

We want honest and respectful LEGAL immigrants who come here for freedom, not for free healthcare. Don’t try to play that stupid word game of calling yourself “undocumented”. It’s factually incorrect and completely misleading. Pitiful video

“Health doesn’t just happen in the doctor’s office or with our personal choices. Health is a shared responsibility between all of us. Health is happening with prevention, in our neighborhoods and in our schools.”
