The Republican-controlled House has blocked Secretary of State John Kerry from offering more financial aid to Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood-controlled government.

It’s well-known by now that the United States is giving $250 million in direct aid to Egypt, along with state-of-the-art F-16 jet aircraft and M1A1 Abrams tanks. But just like everyone else, the country wants more — or at least the Obama administration wants to give the Morsi administration more, according to The Hill.

Of special concern is that the original $250 million in foreign aid was given to Egypt two days after the sequester cuts, which the Obama administration claims will result in 750,000 layoffs.

The Hill spoke to Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

“Our approach is not the full-throttle administration approach of delivering all the aid that they wanted to deliver, but rather a measured approach of tying tranches to results as it pertains to the peace treaty with Israel, to cooperation with respect to smuggling [into Gaza] and with respect to economic reforms to guarantee civil rights and the rule of law within Egypt,” Royce told the publication. “That’s the pressure that we’re applying.”

Although Royce didn’t disclose the exact amount the State Department wanted to offer Egypt in foreign aid, the agency “has been pressing Congress to greenlight $450 million in direct aid since last fall,” The Hill’s Julian Pecquet wrote.

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., Royce’s predecessor as House Foreign Affairs Committee chair, was asked about Kerry’s Egyptian trip.

“I’m glad he’s wrapping up this trip, because every stop he makes he makes more of a promise of financial aid to our so-called allies,” she told The Hill. “And if he doesn’t wrap up this tour soon, we’ll be further bankrupt.”

In the following Fox News analysis, which came shortly after the original $250 million aid package was approved, Florida GOP Congressman Vern Buchanan spoke “On The Record” with Greta Van Susteren:
