NBC is touting a Quinnipiac poll out Thursday that pitted former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Vice President Joe Biden and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo against three potential Republican presidential nominees — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan.
Clinton was the only Democrat to beat all three, beating Christie 45-37 percent, Ryan 50-38 percent, and Rubio by an even wider margin of 50-34 percent.
Biden lost narrowly to Christie 43-40 percent, but defeated Rubio 45-38 percent and Ryan 45-42 percent.
Cuomo lost badly to Christie 45-28 percent. He also lost to Ryan 42-37 percent and tied with Rubio at 37 percent.
In complete disregard for the controversy surrounding Benghazi, NBC reported that after taking on the “statesman role of secretary of state,” Clinton’s image has been rehabilitated from a low point during the 2008 Democratic primary, where her favorability was 37 percent positive, 48 percent negative.
It’s debatable how well her image withstands a consistent focus on the events that led to the deaths of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others, an ugly chapter that is sure to be the centerpiece of any Republican opponent’s strategy against Clinton.
Critics argue that NBC played a significant role in President Obama’s election and question whether reports like this are part of an effort to minimize the effects of Benghazi on Clinton’s presidential aspirations.
