GOP whip slams Obama as ‘road-show president’

House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is not mincing words when it comes to the president and sequestration. Calling Obama the “road show president” in an interview with Greta Van Susteren on Monday, McCarthy said the hype is all political.

“You know, we’re talking about 85 billion dollars,” McCarthy said. “We borrow 85 billion dollars every 28 days. All we’re talking about is making a cut of what we borrow every month.”

McCarthy says that the crisis is made up, and that there is more revenue now than in any other time. The sequestration cuts amount to about 2.3 percent, a number McCarthy says shouldn’t be that hard to trim. Van Sustern asked why the president isn’t working to find a solution to the problem.

“Because he’s never gotten off the campaign trail, and that’s why I call him the road show president,” McCarthy said. “The biggest problem is that we don’t have enough buses to move all of Congress 150 miles to show up at his campaign rallies. Those need to stop, he needs to start leading in this process.”

McCarthy says there will be no tax increase is coming out of the House, but when the cuts occur, it will not be catastrophic.

“The only thing catastrophic that it will be, is it will be shocking that we kept our word in Washington, that we said we would do this eighteen months ago,” McCarthy said.
