The jury is still out on Seth McFarlane’s performance hosting the Oscars Sunday night, but it seems no one gave a thumbs up on the tasteless joke he made about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
The crowd groaned, gasped and even unleashed a few “boos” when McFarlane said:
This is interesting, Daniel Day-Lewis not the first actor to be nominated for playing Lincoln. Raymond Massey portrayed him in 1940’s “Abe Lincoln In Illinois.” This is true. I would argue, however, that the actor who really got inside Lincoln’s head was John Wilkes Booth.
To the audience’s reaction, McFarlane replied, “Really? A-hundred-and-fifty years, and it’s still too soon, huh?”
McFarlane threatened Napoleon jokes would follow, but instead, anti-Semitic jokes told by his bear Ted garnered harsh a Twitter response from none other than the ultra-liberal Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
According to Twitchy:
Which prompted a conservative response:
If that wasn’t enough, the evening ended with a surprise appearance by first lady Michelle Obama, surrounded by military personnel, to present the Oscar for best picture. The move drew mixed reviews and even criticism from some journalists who called it “stupid and pointless,” according to Fox News.
