Last week, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., returned $600,000 of his allocated Senate office operating budget, or about 17 percent of the $3.5 million allotted.
“It’s the only budget I control,” he said at a news conference, according to WDRB News. “It’s not enough, but it’s a start.”
Paul attributed the savings to his practice of “watching every purchase,” including “computers, paper, ink cartridges. Everything we buy.”
Lately, President Obama has been acting like the sky is about to fall because of the budget sequestration cuts, which are estimated to pare defense and domestic spending by $85.3 billion when they take effect March 1.
Given that spending for 2013 is projected at $3.803 trillion, sequestration represents a mere 2.2 percent of the federal budget.
