After watching President Obama deliver the State of the Union address Tuesday, Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., declared, “FDR is back,” telling CNSNews.com, “He had specific programs, a vision.”
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd president of the United States, is best known and beloved for his strong leadership during World War II. What many Americans don’t realize is that Roosevelt was also a strong progressive.
During his State of the Union Address on Jan. 11, 1944, Roosevelt proposed a “second Bill of Rights” in America that would guarantee:
- Employment, with a living wage
- Freedom from unfair competition and monopolies
- Housing
- Medical care
- Education
- Social Security
