Famous rocker, illegal added to State of Union guest list

At Tuesday’s State of the Union address, at least one guest will view the proceedings with hope, another with disgust.

A presidential address is like the senior prom. Each member of Congress gets to invite someone to sit in chambers during the president’s speech. The question is, who gets invited to the prom?

Many lawmakers will be inviting victims of gun violence in order to highlight one of the nation’s biggest hot-button topics.

That’s won’t be the case with Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill. He’ll have Gabino Sanchez seated next to him to highlight another hot topic of the day — immigration reform. Sanchez is an illegal immigrant living in South Carolina.

According to Gutierrez’s website:

The Congressman met Sanchez in November 2011 and pledged to help him fight deportation.  The Congressman accompanied Sanchez to his first supervision appointment with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Charleston, S.C. to ask that his deportation case be closed and attended two subsequent hearings (March 12, and May 15, 2012) before an immigration judge in Charlotte, North Carolina

Texas Republican Rep. Steve Stockman invited outspoken rocker and Second Amendment advocate Ted Nugent, who said he once told the president “to suck on my machine gun,” according to SheKnows.com.

“I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House Chamber to hear from President Obama,” Stockman said on his website. “After the Address I’m sure Ted will have plenty to say.”

I’m sure he will. Nugent is no fan of the president.

“I think that Barack Hussein Obama should be put in jail,” Nugent said, according to SheKnows.com. “It is clear that Barack Hussein Obama is a communist. Mao Tse Tung lives, and his name is Barack Hussein Obama. This country should be ashamed. I wanna throw up.”

Nugent is also no fan of illegal immigrants. According to GraniteGrok.com, he told “Your World” host Neil Cavuto:

The answer is so simple, it’s stupid. I’ve secured my stage, Neil. I’ve secured my home. I’ve secured my fishing pond. I secured my swamp. And I’m just a guitar player. I don’t let any unauthorized penetrators into my secured area. And it really is that simple.

It may be interesting to watch the interplay, if any, between the rocker and the illegal immigrant.
