Here’s the tale of two politicians, their sense of self-awareness and their relationship to God.
Since even before his election in 2008, President Barack Obama has been sanctified and likened to a deity, and began getting progressively worse since the beginning of his re-election campaign.
The president was depicted on Newsweek’s May 21, 2012, cover looking virtuous and sporting a rainbow halo.
At the 2012 Soul Train Awards, Jamie Foxx stirred controversy by referring to Obama as “our lord and savior.”
The Jan. 18 Newsweek cover included a photo of the president with the caption, “The Second Coming.”
Artist Michael D’Antuono painted Obama as a Christ-like figure hanging on the cross. He named the painting, “The Truth.”
Most recently, and in a somewhat less sanctified though still over-the-top portrayal, comedian/actor Chris Rock said we should all listen to “our dad” on guns.
The White House’s reaction to all this adoration has, for the most part, been silence.
Now comes this week’s cover of Time magazine, which features U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio with the headline, “The Republican Savior.”
Rubio’s immediate reaction was this tweet: “There is only one savior, and it is not me. #Jesus”
