You definitely didn’t hear about the pro gun rights testimony to state lawmakers by Newtown, Conn., resident Bill Stevens, whose daughter survived the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. I found myself cheering his words throughout the video.
No, the mainstream media only reported on the “more gun control” testimony of Neil Heslin, a victim’s dad, who wasn’t heckled by pro-gun activists as was broadly and falsely reported.
Both men shared opposing views on gun control at a Working Group Public Hearing on Gun Violence Prevention at the Connecticut State Capitol on Jan. 28, the Daily Caller reported Tuesday.
Stevens absolutely slammed lawmakers over proposed gun control legislation and pointed out his right to bear arms was protected under both the Second Amendment and the Connecticut Constitution. He said that “right” was “inalienable and endowed by our creator, not you politicians.” Three cheers, sir!
Stevens said that “lockdown” and calling 911 were not enough to protect the children at the school that terrible day, but noted the “elaborate security” measures taken at the state Capitol.
“My guns are not dangerous. They are at home, locked up, collecting dust and cat hair,” he said to laughter from the audience.
“Criminals and tyrants – tyrants especially – beware: Lockdown is not an option at the Stevens residence, and 911 will be dialed after the security of my home has been established,” Stevens said, adding, “Why is that same security my daughter enjoys at home with her dad not available at school in Newtown? That is what you should be considering, not making her dad a criminal.” That’s right!
Then Stevens drove his point home on gun control. In a voice cracking with emotion and a fist pounding the table, Stevens told lawmakers:
Charleton Heston made the phrase, ‘from my cold, dead hands’ famous, and I will tell you here today, you will take my ability to protect my Victoria from my cold, dead hands.
I, too, cheered and applauded as the audience did for Stevens.
