Krauthammer: Obama declared official ‘end of Reaganism’

Charles Krauthammer spoke to Fox News’ Brett Baier Monday, offering excellent commentary on President Obama’s inaugural address.

Krauthammer said that though the speech was not “memorable,” it was historically important, because it called for a change in the ideological direction of the country, the virtual end of the era of “Reaganism.”

At the beginning of President Ronald Reagan’s Jan. 20, 1981, inaugural speech, the president said famously, “Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.” Krauthammer said Obama’s address was a “rebuke of that entire idea. This speech today was an ode to big government, it was a hymn to big government.”

“He outlined the liberal agenda, the big government agenda of the future,” Krauthammer said. “Remarkably, there is an absence of any mention of the economy, of deficits, of what outsiders would say is the great challenge of our time…there is nothing of that in this speech. Obama has zero interest in that.

“This speech was a declaration the era of big government is back: ‘I’m [Obama] the man who will do it.’”
