NBC’s Gregory off the hook for possessing illegal gun magazine

david-gregory-meet-the-press-ar15-magazine-121223In an utterly anticlimactic end to a rather fun story we knew would go nowhere, the D.C. attorney general will not prosecute NBC’s David Gregory for possession of a banned high capacity ammunition magazine.  Boo, hiss. And don’t bother speculating if you or I would be afforded the same leniency, we aren’t members of the hypocritical, anti-gun, media elite.

During a Dec. “Meet the Press” interview with Wayne LaPierre from the NRA, Gregory held up the illegal magazine and asked LaPierre if he would support reducing ammunition capacity.

Shortly after the interview, when viewers were screaming for legal action, the D.C. Metro police opened an official felony investigation, and a White House petition calling for charges to be brought against Gregory received a whopping 18, 479 signatures as of this writing.

However, in a letter to NBC, the D.C. Attorney General, Irvin Nathan, said his office “’has determined to exercise its prosecutorial discretion to decline to bring criminal charges against Mr. Gregory, who has no criminal record, or any other NBC employee based on the events associated’ with the broadcast,” reported Politico. Nathan continued, adding, “our recognition that the intent of the temporary possession and short display of the magazine was to promote the First Amendment purpose of informing an ongoing public debate about firearms policy in the United States.”

If it makes you feel any better, Politico reported Nathan also said: “NBC should understand that his office’s move not to press charges was ‘a very close decision and not one to which it came lightly or easily.’”

“Accordingly, NBC and its employees should take meticulous care in the future to ensure that it is in full compliance with D.C. law whether its actions involve firearms or any other potential violation. Repetition by NBC or any employee of any similar or other firearms violation will be prosecuted to the full extent supported by the facts and the law.”

Blah, blah, blah. Gregory is off the hook for possessing an illegal magazine, but the gun control debate for further bans is alive and well. Truly the height of hypocrisy.
