There’s nothing like a rendition of “Elvira” to pick up the spirits of a sick friend. Recently, Joe Bonsall of the Oak Ridge Boys received an email from former First Lady Barbara Bush to do just that for former President George H.W. Bush.
“It was very encouraging to hear him sounding so happy, because we’ve all been worried about him,” Bonsall said. “We love him, we’ve known him since 1982. George and Barbara are good friends of ours.”
After Bush was moved out of intensive care later that day, Bonsall said some media outlets were reporting that it was because of the Oak Ridge Boys’ music.
A statement from Bush’s office said “Words cannot properly express how much The Oaks’ special performance meant to the President and the Bush family…This friendship goes back many years, and what happened yesterday gave the President a real shot in the arm as he, thankfully, continues to improve.”
This year, the Oak Ridge Boys will celebrate 40 years in show business.
