Korean War veterans honored with ‘Freedom Is Not Free’ parade float

DOD-float-webFor the first time in history, the U.S. Defense Department entered a float in the 124th Tournament of Rose’s New Year’s Day parade yesterday.

The float was a replica of the stunning Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. The Associated Press reported that the Defense Department wanted to remind Americans of  “The Forgotten War,” as this July marks the 60th anniversary of the armistice that ended the violence.

The $247,000 flower-filled float called “Freedom Is Not Free, “won the National trophy for best depiction of life in the U.S.,” said The Blaze. Six Korean War veterans rode along in the float including 82-year old James McEachin.

Col. David Clark, director of the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration Committee, told AP, “As a nation, this may be our last opportunity to say `thank you’ to them and honor their service.”
