West Palm Beach, FL- West Palm Beach City Commissioner Shanon Materio today announced her intent to become an official candidate for the District 5 seat she was appointed to following the sudden death last April of long time Commissioner Bill Moss. The City Clerk officially begins accepting applications for the District 5 seat beginning at 12 noon today through 12 noon on January 8, 2013.
Materio will be turning in her Qualifying paperwork to the City Clerk at the West Palm Beach City Hall on Thursday, January 3 at 12:00 noon, making her an official candidate in the March 12, 2013 Municipal Election. According to the City Charter, qualified candidates must run in 2013 to fill the vacancy created by Moss’ death and then again in March of 2014 when the District 5 seat would normally be up for election.
The Shanon Materio Campaign is inviting friends, supporters and elected officials to a rally in the Courtyard of City Hall in support of Commissioner Materio on Thursday, January 3rd, 2013 at 12 Noon. “We’re planning some special campaign ‘hoopla’ for the event that will kick-off 60 days of excitement leading right up to Election Day!”, said Campaign Manager Jody Young. “We’re going to have some lunchtime fun while showing our support for Shanon”, he went on to say.
Commissioner Materio announced the opening of her campaign account in September in order to be able to receive campaign contributions. Although a report of all campaign contributions raised through December 31, 2012 is not due to be filed with the City Clerk until January 10, 2013, the campaign also announced it is likely to report having raised over $17,000 in contributions collected. Candidates can continue raising money through March 7, 2013.
