Bill O’Reilly on the end of civility in America

The subject of Bill O’Reilly’s Monday night “Talking Points” memo was the end of civility in America.

Americans in recent years have been incapable of debating without interjecting name-calling into the process. Witness MSNBC’s Chris Matthews and Toure’, and yes, Fox Sports’ Jason Whitlock.

Our First Amendment freedom of speech carries with it a corresponding obligation to respect those with whom we disagree.

Ad hominem arguments have no place in a civilized society and, in O’Reilly’s opinion, are nothing short of evil.
