The subject of Bill O’Reilly’s Monday night “Talking Points” memo was the end of civility in America.
Americans in recent years have been incapable of debating without interjecting name-calling into the process. Witness MSNBC’s Chris Matthews and Toure’, and yes, Fox Sports’ Jason Whitlock.
Our First Amendment freedom of speech carries with it a corresponding obligation to respect those with whom we disagree.
Ad hominem arguments have no place in a civilized society and, in O’Reilly’s opinion, are nothing short of evil.
