Paul Krugman shows lack of grace over DeMint move

Whatever happened to the adage, “If you can’t say something good about someone, don’t say anything at all”?

By now it’s no secret that tea party favorite Jim DeMint is leaving his post as South Carolina’s favorite Republican senator to head the conservative think, The Heritage Foundation.

Traditionally when people make career moves like this, we wish them the best and leave it at that. Not so liberal economist and New York Times writer Paul Krugman.

Appearing on ABC’s Sunday show “This Week,,” the subject of DeMint’s appointment as Heritage’s president came up.

Republican strategist Mary Matalin applauded DeMint’s change in status.

“As a conservative, as a constitutionalist, that was a brilliant move — a good move for us, a brilliant move for him,” she said.

Krugman would have none of it.

“This is somebody who has no sense that he’s a researcher or an academic, anything like that. This is sort of taking the think out of the think tank, right? This is turning into a purely political institution.”
