The ever outspoken Newt Gingrich addressed a large crowd at the Ronald Reagan Library and Museum Wednesday night where he signed his new book, “Victory at Yorktown.” Love him or hate him, one has to admit his candid remarks are usually quite accurate and always refreshing.
The Daily Caller reported that Gingrich took House Republicans to task saying they “should stop negotiating with President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats on the fiscal cliff [because] by doing so, they give Obama all of the leverage in the talks.”
Gingrich added, “What I would say to the House Republicans is to get a grip. They are the majority; they are not the minority. They don’t need to cave in to Obama. They don’t need to form a surrender caucus.”
In typical Gingrich fashion, he told the audience the fiscal cliff is “absolute, total, nonsense.” According to the Daily Caller article, Gingrich remarked on the fiscal cliff:
It is an excuse to panic. It’s a device to get all of us running down the road so we accept whatever Obama wants because otherwise we have failed the fiscal cliff, and how can you be a patriot if you don’t do what the fiscal cliff requires, and the fiscal cliff will appear to us one afternoon, much like the land of Oz, where there will be this person hiding behind the machine who will say, ‘Raise taxes now,’ and if you don’t raise taxes you’ll have violated the fiscal cliff.
Oh, how I do hope House Republicans are listening. I, for one, do not wish to see them wimping out and forming a “surrender caucus” either.
