White House denies editing CIA talking points, blames CIA

The four dead at Benghazi
” … the White House is turning four dead Americans into a political football.”

The best time to kick a hero is when he’s down. Just ask the Obama administration.

Now that former CIA director David Petraeus has testified that his agency’s Benghazi memo referred to the event as a “terrorist attack” engaged by an “al-Qaida affiliated group,” the White House feels it incumbent to call him a liar, albeit in a nice way.

It’s been reported for two days that security and intelligence leaders have testified that they knew from the get-go that Benghazi was a planned assault and had nothing to do with an alleged demonstration that got out of hand. Petraeus’ report, according to his testimony before the House and Senate Intelligence committees, reiterates this, and he said that the wording was changed after it left his office.

According to Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y., a member of the House Intelligence Committee, “Nobody knows where it was changed. It was nobody in the intelligence community, so it goes to the Justice Department, State Department, White House — somewhere along the line.”

The White House is now denying they did any substantive editing of the CIA talking points memo. According to the Washington Examiner:

White House Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes put the blame back on the Central Intelligence Agency when asked about former CIA director David Petraeus’ claim that  UN Ambassador Susan Rice’s talking points were edited to downplay al Qaida’s role in the Benghazi terrorist attack.

Rhodes told reporters “the only edit that was made by the White House and also by the State Department was to change the word ‘consulate’ to the word ‘diplomatic facility,’ since the facility in Benghazi was not formally a consulate. Other than that we were guided by the points that were provided by the intelligence community.”

In other words, they threw it back to the CIA, and the White House is turning four dead Americans into a political football.

Maybe the buck doesn’t stop at the Oval Office after all.
