St.Lucie County agrees to retabulate all days in West-Murphy race: Back to court?

Allen west and Patrick murphyLate Friday, the St. Lucie County Canvassing Board agreed to retabulate all eight days of early voting in the congressional race for Florida’s 18th District beginning at 9:00 a.m on Saturday, November 17th.

The board held an emergency meeting late Friday afternoon, following the judges ruling on the West-Murphy race, to determine if a recount of all eight early voting days would be granted.

Attorneys for Patrick Murphy argued to the St. Lucie circuit court judge that the canvassing board should be allowed to make the decisions about vote retabulating as provided by Florida law. The judge agreed.

In a confusing addition to that argument, the attorney then threatened in court, if the canvassing board decides in favor of the West teams request for a retabulation, they will take them back in to court to try to stop them, a move that would drag the case out even longer.

From the West team:

“We are pleased the Canvassing Board has done the right thing for the voters of St Lucie County by agreeing to a re-tabulation of early votes,” said Allen West. “All we have been fighting for since the very beginning is to ensure the citizens of this county have their votes accurately and fairly counted.”

“Tonight’s development is a victory for the voters of St. Lucie County, said Tim Edson, West for Congress campaign manager, “Despite the best efforts of Patrick Murphy and his team of attorneys to suppress the vote, the citizens of St. Lucie County will rest easy tonight knowing their voices will be heard.”
