Video: Crowds gather in front of courthouse for Allen West hearing

Crowds began to emerge around 11 a.m. in front of the St. Lucie County courthouse to express support for Congressman Allen West’s call for a complete recount in the Congressional District 18 race.

The West team has been putting together a legal argument to persuade St. Lucie County Circuit Judge Dan Vaughn to order county Elections Supervisor Gertrude Walker to recount all early voting ballots.

Walker has admitted to problems with the ballots, but has not been forthcoming in providing information on how the problems were handled. She ordered and executed a partial recount on Sunday, which only left more questions about what was counted and why the numbers did not match up.

Three investigators were dispatched by state elections officials in Tallahassee to help get to the bottom of the situation. Representatives from the West team said they hope the petition scheduled for a hearing at 1 p.m. Friday will result in a full recount.

The West supporters were confronted by a half dozen protesters that said that West does not support them and that do not want to pay for a recount.
