Obama administration officials have indicated that the President is considering someone who holds the military in low esteem for Secretary of Defense and someone who lied to the American people on national television for Secretary of State.
According to Karen DeYoung and Greg Miller writing in the Washington Post, U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., will be tagged to serve as Obama’s second-term Defense Secretary.
Kerry made his opinion of the military clear six years ago when he told a California audience “Education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. And if you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
During his 2004 run for the presidency, Kerry also came under scrutiny by career military personnel over his combat awards while serving in Vietnam.
The Post article goes on to say:
Although Kerry is thought to covet the job of secretary of state, senior administration officials familiar with the transition planning said that nomination will almost certainly go to Susan E. Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Rice, one of an inner circle of aides who have been with Obama since his first presidential campaign in 2007, is under particular fire over the Benghazi incident, in which U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed.
Readers will recall that five days after the Benghazi attack, Rice appeared on the major Sunday news programs and insisted that the incident was a demonstration that had gotten out of control. Cables, emails and testimony before the House Oversight Committee now indicate that the administration knew from the start that it was a pre-planned terrorist attack.
The confirmation hearings on each of these appointments should be, if nothing else, interesting.
