Yesterday we reported that CIA operatives working in Benghazi, Libya were repeated told to “stand down” when they requested to aid those under attack at the consulate. The assumption was that these directives came from their superiors at the CIA.
Not so, according to a CIA spokesman. “No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate.” This statement is presumed to have been issued at the direction of CIA Director David Petraeus.
This was reported late Friday afternoon by The Weekly Standard, which then asked:
So who in the government did tell “anybody” not to help those in need? Someone decided not to send in military assets to help those Agency operators. Would the secretary of defense make such a decision on his own? No.
The conclusion is inescapable — only the president could have made that decision. Obama’s reluctance to discuss Libya of late suddenly becomes clearer.
With the State Department throwing Obama under the bus, Obama throwing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton under the bus and now presumedly Petraeus throwing Obama under the bus, Washington is about to suffer a serious bus shortage.
