On Oct. 13, Fla. Sen. Ellyn Bogdanoff, R-Ft. Lauderdale, hosted “Ellyn’s Bicycle Classic,” a coastal tour of Florida Senate District 34.
High winds and rain didn’t dampen spirits as the riders wound their way north from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea to Delray Beach, a 20-mile trek with stops in Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, Boca Raton and Highland Beach.
Riders included fellow Florida Senators Joe Negron, R-Stuart and Andy Gardiner, R-Orlando. Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Commissioner Chris Vincent and Hillsborough Beach Commissioner Javier Garcia also participated.
At each stop, the riders were met by well-wishers and less adventuresome political figures, including Fla. Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto, R-Ft. Myers as well as local city leaders. During these breaks, Bogdanoff was happy to extol the beauty of District 34 and discuss one of her favorite topics — bicycle safety.
On Oct. 3, Bogdanoff received the 2012 Florida Legislative Bicycle Champion Award from Florida Walks and Bikes.
