Yesterday morning, we reported on then-presidential candidate Barack Obama’s “racially charged” speech before a predominately black audience at Virginia’s Hampton University in June of 2007.
In his speech, Obama compared the manner in which Stafford Act disaster relief funds were allocated to the victims of 9/11 and Hurricane Andrew to those of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
He claimed that although a 10 percent matching fund requirement was waived for New York and Florida, because they’re “part of the American family,” they were not waived for New Orleans. The reason, according to Obama, “The people down in New Orleans they don’t care about as much!”
His meaning in the 2007 speech was clear. America takes care of white America but not black America.
Obama wasn’t being honest in his speech
First of all, the Stafford Act’s 10 percent matching fund requirement applies only to state governments — city governments such as New Orleans are exempt.
Secondly, two weeks before making his speech in Virginia, Obama was one of 14 senators who voted against exempting Louisiana from the 10 percent matching fund requirement. When this information was published last evening at 7:13, the social media went ballistic.
