A mass of feuding demonstrators welcomed President Obama to West Palm Beach on Sunday.
They started lining up on both sides of Okeechobee Boulevard as early as 1 p.m. By his early-evening arrival, die-hards on either side of the political aisle were hot in more ways than one.
According to a CBS poll conducted in February 2008, 67 percent of Americans predicted that Barack Obama would unite the country if he were elected president.
The level of passion and anger displayed in front of the Palm Beach County Convention Center told a different story.
A video montage of the afternoon shows a constant exchange of insults and taunting as well as full-blown screaming matches. At one point, a woman had to hold her husband back from a man who had insulted her.
Another woman proudly wielding an Obama sign repeatedly told the group of outspoken conservatives, “Y‘all go kill y’all selves.”
No actual violence came from the exchanges.
