RPOF to show Crist as hack during DNC speech

Voters in Florida know former GOP Gov. Charlie Crist for what he is — a political opportunist who will say or do anything to get elected. Now the Republican Party of Florida wants the rest of the country to know as well.

Crist is scheduled to address tonight’s Democratic National Convention, where he will be passing himself off to the delegates as a moderate. Not so fast, says the Republican Party of Florida. Before and after Crist’s speech, the GOP will be running a series of Crist’s own radio ads, including the one below. The ads depict Crist as a pro-life, pro-gun and anti-big government conservative.

According to RPOF Chairman Lenny Curry, “We want to make sure that Democrats and the nation understand who the DNC and Debbie Wasserman Schultz have invited to speak at their convention: a very crass political opportunist.”

Crist ran the ads in 2010 when he was in a fierce primary battle with U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio for Rubio’s current seat. During this period, FOX News anchor Chris Wallace asked Crist on five separate occasions during an interview whether Crist would consider leaving the GOP if his chances for election remained bleak. Crist answered “no” each time, then left his party within days and ran as an independent.
