Jewish leaders’ Democratic bias an outrage in wake of DNC email flap

It’s no great secret that the leaders of local Jewish organizations are Democrats and fervent supporters of the party. There has been so much controversy over this relationship recently that the only way to clear the air would be to urge Jewish leaders to publicly declare their political affiliations. Then their congregations and organizational members would at least have a better idea of what’s motivating these leaders’ sermons or organizational policies. Many members of synagogues and Jewish groups assume that their leaders are politically neutral and have only the interests of Israel and Jews at the top of their agendas. Not so.

The recent exposure of local Democratic National Committee member Evelyn Garcia’s hateful emails about Israel has drawn no official reaction from Jewish leaders. As of this writing, there has been no comment from the Palm Beach County Anti-Defamation League, the American Jewish Committee or any other Jewish organization. How concerned are these individuals and their organizations for the survival of Israel? When a politician such as Garcia attacks that country with false allegations of pure hatred, it is the responsibility of the entire community to join forces to denounce her and those who defend her, whomever they may be. One of her cohorts in Israel-bashing is top Democrat Medea Benjamin, the founder of Code Pink. Benjamin is a fundraiser for Barack Obama and a visitor to his White House. Another of Garcia’s supporters and political mentors is DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who poses with Garcia in the photo accompanying the BizPac Review article. Birds of a feather.

Garcia’s emails are vitriolic, and it’s stunning to believe that with today’s technology, they were not forwarded to leading Democrats in order to silence her messages, knowing they could explode during this election cycle. It’s interesting to note, too, that Garcia is a candidate for Florida House District 88. There is a familiar ring to an Israel hater running for public office. Charles Barron, who belongs on this list, just lost the Democratic primary for a U.S. House seat representing Brooklyn, N.Y., because of his bigotry. But for years, that was an open secret. Al Sharpton was a finalist in the Democratic presidential primaries of 2008. No outcry from the Jewish organizations then, either. Explain that to me.

Many of us in Palm Beach County have had it with Jewish leaders and their organizations playing footsy with the Democratic Party. We demand they drop their partiality for the party of Sharpton, Dennis Kucinich, Keith Ellison and the 34 House members who supported the Goldstone Report.

Hey, Jewish machers (bigshots), it’s time to wake up and shirk off your Democratic umbilical cord. It’s time to start supporting Israel and Jewish survival.
