I’ve saved this video since I saw it years ago. It’s about designing a stop sign by committee, but it just as easily could apply to a political race.
Political candidates, pay attention. Have your boyfriends, girlfriends, spouses, parents, siblings, assistants or best friends designed hundreds of political mail pieces or TV spots?
Besides you, has anyone ever paid them to craft a professional political message?
No, you say?
Then why are you letting them torture your consultant and campaign staff with dopey ideas, strategies and changes to your message?
Campaigns waste an enormous amount of money and time on infighting caused by well-meaning amateurs inserted by candidates into their leadership teams.
So, candidates, pick the best professionals you can afford, and then let them do their job.
Of course, that’s only if you want to win.
Design by committee, die by committee.
