The field is set for the March 13 West Palm Beach City Commission races, with Commissioners Bill Moss and Sylvia Moffett drawing challengers when qualifying ended on Tuesday.
No one filed to run against Kimberly Mitchell, clearing her for automatic reelection.
In District 5, Moss, a 12-year incumbent, is opposed by election attorney Dodger Arp and former City Commissioner David Smith. Ironically, a question on term limits will also appear on the March ballot.
Moss leads the group in fundraising, reporting over $41,000 raised as of the end of December. In his first report, Arp reported collecting over $21,000, including a donation from School Board Member Jenny Prior Brown. Smith reported no contributions or expenses.
In District 1, bank teller Sean Jackson is opposing Moffett, who was appointed to the seat in April. Paul McCullough, a retired real estate broker and a former contender for the same seat, filed as a write-in candidate and was not required to pay the filing fee.
Moffett reported raising $11,530 since July, while Jackson’s first report lists just over $2,400 in contributions.
While the measure to limit commission terms to eight years is on the ballot, if passed, it will not take effect until after the election, ensuring sitting commissioners a shot at another eight years.
