A culinary and design fusion treated the senses of more than 350 guests at an out-of-the-ordinary fundraiser Tuesday night, with gala proceeds benefiting needy children.
Hosted by the American Society of Interior Designers’ Florida South chapter, The Channing Corp. and Venue Marketing Group, the Wine & Dine Showcase had guests sampling culinary delights and spirits offered by a variety of local restaurants and retailers.
While food tasting at fundraisers is not unusual, the infusion of design and politics added a bit of a “buzz factor” to this event. State legislators were honored with ASID awards, and designers were invited to show off their stylistic talents throughout the space.
To get a full picture, you have to envision the layout at STORE Self Storage & Wine Storage. The four-story building has a massive, covered courtyard lined with both traditional self-storage and wine-storage units. The high-end facility has a luxurious board room for wine tastings or business meetings, available for rent to the public for events. The venue also offers ample space for large gatherings, including the traditional green market held there each Saturday from July to September, with 46 vendors participating.
On Tuesday, the courtyard was transformed into a culinary and designer showcase, as attendees made their way to the booths, but only after stopping by the chilled wine vault to get a complimentary glass of wine. Designers representing small businesses in the area featured vignettes depicting casual Florida, outdoor living, kitchens, hotel and commercial office spaces.
In one of the evening’s highlights, Florida Reps. Pat Rooney, Joe Abruzzo, Lori Berman, Jeff Clemens Mark Pafford and other state legislators accepted awards by the American Society of Interior Designers’ local chapter. The group said its awards are given to those “demonstrating leadership in streamlining government, standing up for the needs of children, small business and professional certification, and legislators who have demonstrated economic restraint in creating the state budget.”
Other honorees, who sent representatives to accept on their behalf, were state Reps. Steve Perman and Mack Bernard and state Sens. Ellyn Bogdanoff, Lizbeth Benacquisto and Joe Negron.
Benefits from the evening went to Place of Hope, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The Palm Beach Gardens-based organization provides emergency and long-term foster care; intervention; transitional housing; adoption and foster care support services, and outreach for local children and families who have been abused and neglected.
