Nezar Hamze, executive director of CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) South Florida, the group most known for protecting and promoting the civil rights of Muslims, stunned a crowd of hundreds of Broward Republicans on Monday when he admitted that the editor of the Shark Tank blog “encouraged” him to join the Broward GOP.
Hamze, an outspoken critic of popular conservative Republicans like Allen West and Adam Hasner, submitted an application to join the Broward Republican Executive Committee, which asks applicants, “Whom may we thank for referring you?”
One of the names Hamze listed was Javier Manjarres, Shark Tank blog editor and an alternate BREC committeeman. Hamze’s revelation caused an immediate stir.
Manjarres ran up to the front of the room to deny he recommended Hamze, causing BREC Chairman Richard DeNapoli to ask to have the names on the application read a second time.
Hamze told Manjarres, in front of the shocked crowd, “You’re the one that told me you believed in freedom of religion, and that I should join the BREC.”
The room then erupted in boos and shouts from the audience.
A secret ballot for membership rejected Hamze’s application with a vote of 158 to 11.
In a videotaped interview after the meeting, Hamze confirmed to REDBROWARD.COM that Manjarres did “encourage” him to join the Broward GOP.
Shark Tank has run numerous stories on the attempt by Hamze to join the group.
In regards to the vote, Manjarres commented to the Miami Herald , “They singled him out. It was a setup.”

Javier Manjarres responded to this article on 9/29/2011 with the following quote:
So, the same people that are telling us not to believe anything Hamze, CAIR or what any other Muslim says because they feel they are lying, are now telling us to believe what Hamze is saying? I thought that everything that came out of his mouth was a lie? This is hypocrisy at it’s finest.
Fact of the matter is that my detractors that take issue with me are simply jealous of the local and national attention The Shark Tank receives, let alone the success of the blog- nothing more, nothing less .
As for the Broward Republican Executive Committee (BREC) and its ‘ineffectual’ and poor excuse for a leader, Chairman Richard DeNapoli, they are upset because they have been exposed for the frauds that they really are.
Perhaps they should concern themselves more with the ramifications that may come out from the fact that they have filed a false incident report with the Coral Springs Police Department…fasten your seat belts for this one…”
The following response was added by Richard DeNapoli on October 1, 2011
“Since I was elected Chairman of the Broward County Republican Party in December 2010, I along with the new board, have recruited approximately 100 new members and have had blockbuster fundraising events like our Lincoln Day dinner featuring Governor Scott, Congressman West, and RNC Co-Chair Sharon Day (450 people) and our Grand Old Party BBQ, which featured just about every elected Republican official in Broward and all four Senate candidates along with almost 600 guests. Together, we have netted about $100,000 for the party. It amazes me that some people out there who call themselves Republicans would constantly besmirch the good name of the Broward GOP for their own personal and monetary gain, especially when they are trying to distract from their own negative publicity. Facts are stubborn things, and the fact is that the Broward GOP is a highly successful organization with record attendance, fundraising, and recruitment.”
Regards,
Richard DeNapoli, Chairman, Broward Republican Party
