Editor’s Note – An announcement was made on Friday of the formation of a new Senate Tea Party Caucus, taking a formal step toward uniting members of the movement in the 112th Congress.
Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY), Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) will be the group’s inaugural members, according to a joint statement released by Paul’s office.
As for Senator Marco Rubio, who rode the tea party to victory here in Florida, his name is conspicuously absent. Throughout the 2010 election cycle, Rubio readily accepted tea party support, but always seemed to be walking a tightrope so as to not be too closely linked to the grassroots movement.
Perhaps the tea party movement here in Florida should contact our new Senator and inquire as to exactly when he plans to announce his joining?

Tea Party Caucus Set To Meet
Gabriella Schwarz
CNNThe Senate Tea Party Caucus will convene for the first time January 27 at a meeting that will feature members of local Tea Party groups and Republican Senators Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Mike Lee of Utah and Rand Paul of Kentucky.
According to a statement, they will discuss spending proposals, options for balancing the budget, ending the deficit and limiting the size of government.
“The folks who made the Tea Party such a force to be reckoned with in the last election can have an enduring impact by holding elected officials accountable to the people. They will be watching to see if those they helped elect make good on their limited government promises, and I intend to help them stay informed and engaged,” DeMint said in the statement.
The three senators were backed by the Tea Party movement in their respective elections and supported the idea of a Tea Party Caucus in the Senate.
