It looks as if Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos has unofficially declared his candidacy for U.S. Senate. An email was sent out yesterday by Meredith O’Rourke, former Jeb Bush and Charlie Crist fundraiser, inviting big Republican donors to a “private strategy meeting” in Orlando next month. The invitation is asking them to have $10,000 checks “in hand”.
The email states; “Senator Mike Haridopolos asked that I invite you to a private strategy session on Thursday, February 3rd in Orlando to discuss his candidacy for United States Senate. The meeting will take place at the Hyatt Regency Orlando Airport at 11:00 am. The Senator would greatly appreciate it if you would consider raising $10,000 to Friends of Mike H and have it in hand for the strategy session.”
Haridopolos has not commented on the email, although it has been rumored for sometime that he will challenge incumbent Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012. The Republican primary is expected to be a crowded field, with several other names being tossed about. All of which changes immediately should former Governor Jeb Bush step in as some have speculated.
