Yesterday’s tragic shooting in Arizona proves that we, as human beings, are simply not in control of all that happens around us. Senseless acts such as this leave us feeling scared, frustrated and vulnerable because of the sheer unpredictability of these acts .
While it’s unthinkable that such evil exists among us, far too often, we are reminded that it does. RedState’s Erick Erickson described it well in a blog yesterday, “The truth is there is evil in this world. Evil exists where God does not and as we drive God further and further away, evil creeps in more and more.”
The details are still emerging on the background of the person behind this despicable act of violence and what his possible motives are, but what is already clear is that he is a disturbed individual – yet another symptom of a sick society that has no moral or spiritual grounding.
What we also know is that his actions had very little to do with the political discourse in the country, despite all that you will hear on this over the coming weeks. Evil will always find a way, as we saw with the senseless death of John Lennon.
Nonetheless, the far left dutifully went right to work placing blame on Sarah Palin, the tea party movement and any other staunch conservative they could think of. With complete disregard for the victims, even communist sympathizer Jane Fonda got in on the act by tweeting just hours after the shooting that this was the fault of Sarah Palin.
I have to ask, is there not a limit to the amount of damage one citizen can do to their country? Jane Fonda, do America a favor and just go away!
And the usual suspects in the media readily fall in line. At this stage of the game, hardly a surprise. What is a surprise is that the far left cannot see that they’re making the case for conservatives in the process.
In the spirit of not allowing a good crisis to go to waste, the left claims that those on the right have ratcheted up the political rhetoric in this country to a dangerous level, yet they use wildly exaggerated, irresponsible rhetoric to prove their case. They point to the map Sarah Palin created to “target” Democrats in the November election, which placed a cross hair over the vulnerable seats, as if yesterday’s result was Palin’s intent all along.
And at the same time, ignore similar actions and remarks from the left. Such as the President of the United States, who said, “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun because from what I understand, folks in Philly like a good brawl”. Following the far left’s logic, Barack Obama is thus responsible for every gun shot victim in Philadelphia. Ridiculous? Of course, just as it’s ridiculous to blame Sarah Palin for what took place yesterday.
The truth is the political rhetoric in this country is at a dangerous level and it’s there because of the actions of the hate filled far left. I stood on the Capitol grounds when the healthcare vote was taking place. I witnessed the actions of both the right and the left when emotions where sky high.
I saw the repeated attempts by the left, which included SEIU, Code Pink and OFA, to antagonize those on the right, including firebrand Alan Grayson coming out into the crowd, all with the goal of prompting a confrontation. Yet, time and again, those on the right called out to one another in the face of this onslaught to stand strong and be vigilant, not to succumb to the provocations.
I saw the in-your-face celebration by the far left when the vote results where announced. I also saw the right respond to this crushing defeat by circling, with tears in their eyes, and sing ‘God Bless America’. And, amazingly, the media missed it all.
So, yes, you’re damn right the political discourse in this country is dangerously high. It’s dangerously high because conservatives have grown weary of all the lies and half truths, the never ending play on words, the double standard in the media, where the burden of proof exists only on the right, and having to endure most of the above from the most partisan President in our lifetime.
Yet, none of this played a role in what took place yesterday in Arizona. Spirited political debate has always defined American politics and rarely does it lead to violence. When it does, it is usually isolated incidents by unbalanced individuals, such as yesterday’s act appears to be.
To suggest otherwise is driven by the results of this past Novemer’s election. And with these results fresh in everyone’s mind, we see a real sense of desperation setting in for the far left. They understand that they’re losing on the battlefield of ideas, that their arguments cannot stand in the fire of truth. That this past November is just the beginning of the setbacks in store for them.
The far left tried to wait the tea party out, and, when it became clear that was not going to work, they began attacking it with false charges of racism and violence. Unfortunately, for the left, the tea party delivers the “spirit” of revolution, not the violence. As John Adams stated;
“Revolution was effected before the war commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people . . . . This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people was the real American Revolution.”
The problem with the far left’s choice of tactics is that there’s no truth to it. Unable to muster an effective counter argument because their vision for this country is foreign to most Americans and knowing that they cannot just wish the tea party away, they simply repeat the process as if reading from a shampoo bottle.
Yet, with yesterday’s tragedy, the far left sees a new opportunity to deliver a fatal blow to their nemesis. Shamelessly taking advantage of an unthinkable event to advance their ideology, one that strikes at the heart of any decent American, they’ll attempt to spin the truth and convince the people of this country that the tea party played a role in what took place.
And if successful, they may finally be rid of the greatest obstacle in their ongoing quest to fundamentally transform America. Don’t be swayed, my patriot friends, stand strong and be vigilant.
