The Big Boot

What’s going to happen during the upcoming Lame Duck session of Congress?

Will “Cap and Trade” get passed? Will another Tarp bill move through Congress? How about a vote to deny or extend the Bush tax cuts?

While these things are all fascinating, the same overwhelming issue that faces millions of American Citizens every day, will soon demand many a congressmen’s undivided attention.

Jobs! That’s right. Jobs. Their jobs…

And, the time frame is very short.

Every House member or Senator that gets booted out of office, in November, will lose their job, in January. A lot of old-dog politicians will “no longer meet the long-term goals of the organization”. They’ll have been pink-slipped and separated from the payroll. In other words…FIRED.

The reshuffling of Congress, along with the ever expanding strength of Tea Party candidates, will throw a big wrench into the continued destruction of the American Way by establishment politicians. Thinking about how to write a 1000+ page bill will be the last thing on their little minds. They won’t be jockeying around for committee chairmanships, assignments, or where they are in the pecking order. They’ll be trying to figure out what they’ll do with all that free time on their hands, come January.

Their relevance will have passed and they’ll fade quickly from view. It always happens, no matter what the industry.

Like anyone else that gets the heave-ho, the outcasts will also go through some period of reflection, immediately after the November event. They’ll question their self-worth. They’ll wonder what’s important in life. They might even descend into depression. Oh, wait, they’re Liberals and that’s already seized them. I suspect many will just say “heck with it”, since they’ve been showing up for the same tired fight for two, three, four, or more terms.

Is there any reason to think that the people going out the Congressional door, might not also be just a little bitter?

Come on, everybody feels the painful sting, after realizing that you’re not wanted any more. Having larger-than-life egos, many of these big talking, big spending politicians might have a particularly tough time accepting their fate. When Obama and Pelosi call them for their support, anybody with any sense won’t answer the phone. What reward will the short-timer get out of being “a good soldier”, when it comes to the Administration’s crazy Socialist plans? I’d say odds of getting a czarship will be pretty slim, since they’ve been rejected and are now considered toxic.

Are they going to stand by and be used again? Look where it got them in this election.

And, we mustn’t forget that everybody will be looking to put the blame on somebody else, for this new looming Liberal disaster.

Hold up the mirror, fellas!

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Other problems, for the soon to be former Congressmen, include arranging new housing, resetting their social calendars for next year, and the lack of help from staff.

Actually, the staff will probably be even more preoccupied with finding new jobs, than the outgoing House and Senate members. Nobody will even be in the office when Obama and Pelosi call, because all the staffers will be out on lunch interviews or schmoozing for potential new employers.

Who’s going to do all the work?

Dad gets much of the credit, for these brilliant observations. I’ve simply put it on paper. He’s quite a student of politics, being part of the NSA when he was in the Army and having worked a stint as a small-town mayor. He also maneuvered around corporate America as an engineer, during the 60’s, for several large defense contractors. He’s a real, live Philadelphia lawyer, specializing in zoning law, with degrees from both Purdue and Temple.

Dad thinks that the only thing that might get any attention is the Bush tax cuts. Obama will need to do something that will prop up his waning popularity and it isn’t a big deal to just vote for an extension. They’ll probably vote for a two-year extension so the timing is right for 2012.
