In an effort to counter all the outlandish and misleading comments being tossed about by Democrat Alan Grayson, the Daniel Webster for Congress campaign has added a “Truth” tab to their web site located at:

http://www.ElectWebster.com/truth

Alan Grayson:
Daniel Webster refused to serve in the military.

Truth:
From 1967 to 1971, Mr. Webster was completing his undergraduate degree at Georgia Tech, where he served in the Army ROTC program. Upon graduation from college, Mr. Webster reported and was turned down for military service as a result of his physical evaluation. Mr. Webster has always tirelessly supported our troops and our veterans.

Alan Grayson:
Daniel Webster spent $32,000 on a spiral “stairway to nowhere”.

Truth:
When Daniel Webster was Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives he had a small metal stairway (looks more like a fire escape than the luxurious stairway featured in Grayson’s TV ad) placed in the Speakers office connecting the Speakers Office with the Majority Office. The stairway actually only cost $22,000 and was installed to improve the workability and connectivity of the office.

Alan Grayson:
Daniel Webster charged taxpayers for 68 private jet flights.

Truth:
Daniel Webster flew on the state plane (not a jet) while he served in the legislature. The flights were only for official business and Mr. Webster was only one of 6-9 government officials on the flights. The total cost to taxpayers was no more than $12,000 which means that each flight averaged out to a cost of $177. In most cases this price is cheaper than commercial airfare from Orlando to Tallahassee – thus resulting in a net savings to taxpayers.

Alan Grayson:
Daniel Webster wants to cut Social Security Benefits.

Truth:
Daniel Webster never stated that Social Security benefits should be cut or reduced for those who are currently receiving benefits or those near retirement age. Social Security is a mandatory program that is not included in the budgetary process. Daniel Webster simply stated that the budget should be rolled back to 2007 levels to help address our national budget crisis. Rolling back the budget to 2007 will eliminate what is left of the bailouts, stimulus packages, salary increases (COLA) for federal employees – which includes Congressmen, and Obama’s Healthcare Plan.

Alan Grayson:
Daniel Webster spent $9,400 on a RPOF credit card.

Truth:
As Senate Majority Leader Daniel Webster had a Republican Party of Florida Credit Card. This Credit Card was paid for by donors who donated to the Republican Party of Florida, not taxpayer dollars. The charges on the card were $9,400 over a two year period of time – averaging out to be $392 per month in expenses. These expenses included food, meeting, and travel expenses for members of the legislature and staff.
