OK, by a show of hands, how many of you were surprised that Charlie Crist vetoed the bill that would require women seeking an abortion to first have an ultrasound?
The bill also included a provision to ensure that tax dollars didn’t cover elective abortions. Politicians are often called chameleons, however, I don’t ever recall seeing anyone change colors as quickly as ol’ Charlie has! He has completely abandoned any hope for the conservative vote and is now almost completely dependent on the independent and liberal voters in the state for success, which explains this move.
Latest poll numbers show Rick Scott surging ahead of Bill McCollum in the Republican primary for governor, and, even worse news for McCollum, show Scott performing better against Democrat Alex Sink in a head to head matchup. A number of things could be at play here, however, you can’t discount the anti-incumbent feeling that has taken hold across the land.
After reading a Sunshine State News article, Why Rick Scott is Burying Bill McCollum, by Kenric Ward, in which I was interviewed, I was struck by this line – ‘Election results this year suggest that Tea Party influence in large states isn’t as strong as it is in smaller states.’ As previously stated here, there appears to be a calculated gamble on the part of the RPOF to diminish the influence of the movement, and this observation by Ward seems to reinforce that thought. Where the ‘establishment’ is making a gross miscalculation is that even if the tea party movement fades, it will do so in name only. The apparatus of concerned citizens, which is all the movement is, remains intact…
As frequently as the RPOF missteps, it’s a wonder how the power base maintains it’s arrogance. Candidates that are challenging this structure are not making the same mistake, which explains why a meeting request with Rick Scott is readily agreed upon in less than a week, yet, a similar request to sit down with the ‘chosen ones’ often becomes a complicated, drawn out affair that can last for weeks and weeks.
Attended the ‘Stand with Arizona’ rally Saturday in Eustis, which had a nice turnout. The event was organized by the North Lake Tea Party, which does a great job with events such as this. It was refreshing to stand amongst so many patriotic Americans, even if they are denegrated at every opportunity by the mainstream media!
While there, I got the chance to spend more time with Mike Yost, who’s looking to take on Corrine Brown in district 3. Wherever his campaign sets up a booth, I’ve noticed a curious thing – a pair of extremely worn out shoes prominently displayed on the table. What that represents is the extreme effort that Mike has put into this race. While standing there in the intense Florida summer heat talking to Mike, I also noticed that his dress shirt was soaked through and through from sweat, yet, this did not deter his tremendous attitude, nor his focus on sharing his message with the folks. District 3, you need to get this man elected!
Speaking of Corrine Brown, while defending the system that created her sprawling gerrymandered district this week, she said this; “Do you know who Gerry Mandering was? He was a white legislator that had a lot of power, and what we want to make sure is everybody has a fair opportunity to have representation in the United States Congress”.
This would be comical if she were not a U.S. Congresswoman. Memo to Ms. Corrine Brown – there is no Gerry Mandering! The term gerrymandering originated when Massachussetts Gov. and former U.S. Vice President Elbridge Gerry in 1812 signed into law a district that was said to look like a salamander. And we wonder why the country is in such a mess???
Getting back to the ‘Stand with Arizona’ rally, I got the chance to see Jason Sager, who’s running for Congress in district 5, speak for the first time and was very impresssed! I have heard hundreds of candidate speeches by this point, yet, I have never heard a candidate so elegantly and accurately capture the current political atmosphere in this country as well as Sager did. And, he did this in detail while standing in the direct sun and the brutal Florida heat!
You may recall a story OPP did a while back on Jason Sager, The Audacity of The Establishment, where the D5 incumbent Ginny Brown-Waite (R) announced that she was not running for re-election – minutes after the qualifying period expired. And, even though Sager qualified by petition, the Republican party ignores his campaign. District 5, you must get this man elected!
The Orlando Political Press welcomes Americans For Prosperity to Central Florida! AFP has been a leading advocate in the fight against ObamaCare & Cap N Trade, and continues to lead the way for limited government and free market solutions. The organization has started a Florida chapter with Apryl Marie Fogel being named State Director. “Americans For Prosperity has a long standing record nationally of successful initiatives and I fully intend to bring that success to Florida”, Ms. Fogel recently said.
Americans For Prosperity will be having a series of ‘November Is Coming’ rallies around the state, beginning with an event here in Orlando next Saturday. The Orlando rally will take place at Orlando City Hall on June 19th at 12:00 PM. It will include a series of speakers, including the inspirational Frantz Kebreau, of the NAACPC, as well as music, food and giveaways (including airfare and accomodations to the upcoming “Defending the American Dream” Summit Aug 27-28, 2010 in D.C.). Central Florida conservatives are encouraged to come out and support a great ally!
In closing, is it possible that Alan Grayson went an entire week without saying something stupid???
